A PIL Public Interest Litigation was filed in Gujarat High Court challenging Gujarat Government’s announcement on 10 % reservation to general category under EBC Economically Backward norms. Applicant Manani pleaded that reservation cannot be granted on economical grounds which is against provision of Indian constitution and requested to grant stay on 10 % for EBC in Gujarat.
Gujarat High Court has issued notice to Gujarat government. Next hearing will be made on June 22. Supreme Court has declared a cap of 50 % on reservation. With announcemnt of EBC, reservation would reach upto 58 % which will violate limit set by Supreme Court. Reservation without any groundwork by commission led Gujarat HC to serve notice to executive, GAD and executive of Education Board.
