Akshardham Temple attack : Gujarat ATS arrests accused Yasin Bhatkal from J&K

In a big success to Gujarat ATS Anti Terror Squad arrests Yasin Bhatkal (Mohammad Yasin Gulam Mohiddin Bhat) of Indian Mujahideen and mastermind of Akshardham temple attack of 2002 in Gandhinagar. 

Yasin was arrested from Anantnag in Kashmir. He will be brought to Ahmedabad on transit remand from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Attack took place on 24 September 2002 evening at 4:30 pm. he was working in a wooden warehouse in Anantnag.

Accused Bhat in the case allegedly provided help in supplying and transporting the weapons including AK-47 assault rifles from PoK to Jammu and Kashmir for the attack. Two armed men attacked the Akshardham temple complex in Gandhinagar, killing over 30 including an NSG commando and injuring several others. 86 people including 23 police were injured in the attack.

According to a release from the department, Bhat, who is associated with the terror group Lashkar-e- Taiba, had fled to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) after the attack
