Bhavnagar farmers beaten by police protesting against mining by cement company

Today morning Police beats farmers protesting at Mahuva of Bhavnagar. Farmers of nearby 10 villages turned up in large number to protest against mining by Ultratech cement company, to control the situation police did light lathi charge on women and farmers. Tear gas shells were bursted at the site.

Ultratech cement company has launched a mining plant between Mahuva and Talaja, affecting some 10 nearby villages. Permission to the site was given 10 years by government, where no work was carried out but when company started its work had a protest from farmers

There was a constant protest by farmers against the plant by cement company.

A rally led by Kanu Kalsariya was taken out by farmers to save the mining land claimed by cement company. Farmers tried to illegally enter the mining site of company. Farmers pelted stones on Bhavnagar police.

Congress and Kanu Kalsariya has blamed police for attack on farmers.

Tankara MLA Lalit Kargathara condemned the entire situation and said that BJP government insensitive about farmers.

There was confrontation by cement company and farmers at mining site in Mahuva.

However, Bhavnagar SP has demanded for additional force of SRP teams from Gujarat Home Department to maintain law and order. Gujarat DGP has sought report in the case.

Effect of te incident could be felt in Ganshinagar, as Gujarat CM has viewed the matter seriously in the cabinet meeting and instructed home and administrative department to get the report on situation at Bhavanagar. CM instructed Home Minister to independently assess the situation.

Police has been instructed not to harm any localites by state administration.

Presently, situation is under control. Police of entire Bhavanagar district has been deployed at the site.
