Displeased Supreme Court penalized 11 states over inaction on Rehabilitation of Widows
Supreme Court in August 2017 had appointed a committee of social workers and a lawyer to suggest measures to be taken for rehabilitation of hapless Indian widows of Vrindavan abandoned by their family members and to focus on framing a policy to promote widow remarriage in the country.
Supreme Court is displeased over widow rehabilitation in India. SC has penalized 11 states including Gujarat for inaction on welfare measures of rehabilitation of widows. A fine of Rs 2 lakhs will be taken from 11 states on instructions from apex court.
It is an humble effort by some NGOs to restore dignity, to improve sorry plight and respect to elderly Indian widows.
