Karishma Tanna: “Marriage won’t define my relationship with Upen”

TV actress Karishma Tanna is “very happy” in her committed relationship with Upen Patel but she says the couple is not in a rush to tie the knot. The duo began dating last year on the season eight of celebrity reality show “Bigg Boss”. The couple got engaged earlier this year when Upen proposed to the actress on dance show “Nach Baliye 7”, where they were participants. “Right now, we are working very hard… Marriage is not running away. It is not the ultimate thing for us, it is not like marriage will define our relationship. We are in a committed relationship and in a happy space. Let’s see what future holds for us… One also needs to find enough time to get married as it is not a single-day thing,” Karishma told.

The couple are currently seen on “MTV Love School”, a relationship school for real-life couples, which works towards healing damaged and troubled relationships. The show comprises a syllabus including tasks, challenges and tests to ensure progress and sustenance of relationships. It enables couples to give a fresh start to their strained relationships with advice from “love gurus” Karishma and Upen. “The concept of the show attracted me to it. Young couples go through a lot of problems, which we have seen in the past, so we can advise them and guide them on where they are going wrong and then eventually graduate them from the love school,” Karishma said.

The actress added she and Upen also have their own “couple issues” because they are “very different” individuals but they manage to find a common ground as the duo understands each other. “I think we are a part of the show because we are good in our respective relationships with families and friends. We have our ups and downs and our share of arguments because we are strongly opinionated people and have difference of opinions. “Sometimes, we agree to disagree. We have difference of opinion on the show as well. We know how to strike a balance and we would be advising the couples the same,” she said.
