Odisha flood death toll reaches 34, affect nearly 10 lakh people

In Odisha state heavy rains have flood waters engulfed near delta region of Mahanadi river. Death toll in the state flood has reached 34. From Odisha state about 9.95 lakh people of 1553 villages of 89 blocks in 23 districts were adly affected. As per Commissioner, though Mahanadi river is flowing above danger mark but since excess water falls into Hirakud reservoir there is no threat to people.

Flood of Mahanadi river has affected Naraj, Jobra and Daleighai and have submerged many areas where relief and rescue operation was intensified. Also Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda and Puri districts were hit by flood in Mahanadi, even as situation in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts continued to be grave due to submergence of vast areas by flood in Baitarani though water level in the river is slowly falling.
