Supreme Court stayed Nagarpalika, Mahanagarpalika elections in Gujarat

Today Supreme Court has granted stay on upcoming for 6 Nagarpalika and Mahanagar Palika elections  in Gujarat. State government is in dilemma as they were to announce election dates very soon and had geared up electoral process among ruling party.

Based on Raju Samant of Vadodara ward’s plea Supreme Court has granted stay on elections. Appealant had made plea that like Delhi and Maharashtra states there should be only one Nagar Sevak per one ward, whereas in Gujarat there are 4 Nagar Sevaks in Gujarat state. Supreme Court accepted the fact of one Nagar Sevak for one ward and issued notice to Gujarat government and asked them to submit reply in 15 days.

It is learnt that Raju Samant is backed by Narendra Ravat of Congress who contested against Narendra Modi from Vadodara in general elections of 2014. The case is pleaded by Kapil Sibbal, Harin Raval, Anirudh Sharma and Huzefa A Ahmadi.
