Digvijaya Singh feels Congress should not declare Rahul as PM nominee

When the entire Congress party talks one thing, trust general secretary Digvijaya Singh to talk another. In his latest startling I-speak-my-mind revelation, the garrulous Congress leader has said that the Congress should not name its prime ministerial candidate despite rising clamour for it within the party.Notably, Priyanka Gandhi, the sister of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, had on Tuesday held a meeting with party leaders Ahmad Patel, Janardan Dwivedi, Jairam Ramesh, Madhusudan Mistry, Mohan Gopal and Ajay Maken.

Ahead of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting on January 17, this was a crucial meeting for preparing the roadmap for a reshuffle in the party and Rahul Gandhi’s projection as the prime ministerial candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.Talking to reporters in Bhopal, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said it was against the Congress tradition to declare its PM nominee before polls and the party should stick to this.Denying reports of an expenditure of Rs 500 crore to take professional help from global PR firms to bolster Rahul Gandhi’s sagging poll prospects, Digvijaya Singh said these were entirely false.
