Ahmedabad is set to host one of Asia’s biggest sporting events as preparations gather momentum for the upcoming AWF Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026. A special press conference regarding the championship was organized on Friday at Karnavati Club.
The event was organized under the aegis of the Sports Authority of Gujarat in association with the Indian Weightlifting Federation. Senior officials shared important updates regarding preparations, participation details and the international significance of the championship.
The press conference was presided over by Dr. Sahdev Yadav, President of IWLF, along with Ashwani Kumar, CEO of IWLF, and Kumabasi Subramanya, Director of Competitions for AWC 2026.
Organisers stated that the championship will bring together top weightlifters from across Asia and is expected to enhance Gujarat’s growing reputation as a major destination for international sporting events. The event will also provide a significant boost to sports infrastructure, tourism and youth engagement in the state.
Officials highlighted that extensive planning and coordination are underway to ensure world-class facilities, athlete hospitality and smooth conduct of the championship in Ahmedabad. The tournament is expected to attract athletes, coaches, technical officials and sports enthusiasts from multiple Asian nations.
The organisers also expressed confidence that hosting the prestigious championship would inspire young athletes across India and further strengthen the country’s position in international weightlifting.
