Gandhinagar, January 1, 2026 — The Gujarat government ushered in the New Year with a significant administrative decision, granting promotions to 14 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across key leadership ranks in the state police force.
According to official orders issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) and the Home Department, the promotions are effective immediately and span top positions including the Director General of Police (DGP), Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) grades.
Among the noteworthy elevations:
Narasimha N. Komar, IPS (GJ:1996) — Commissioner of Police, Vadodara City — has been promoted to Director General of Police (DGP) grade with the post upgraded accordingly.
Dr. Prafulla Kumar Roshan has been elevated to DGP (Armed Units).
Dr. S. Pandya Rajkumar has been promoted to DGP (Law and Order).
Dr. Vipul Agrawal — to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)
Neeraj Kumar Badgujar, MS Sara Rizvi, Shobha Bhutada, Pradeep Shejul — to IGP level
Dr. Sudhirkumar J. Desai, Shablaram Meena, Dr. Karanraj Vaghela, S. V. Parmar, A. M. Munia — to DIG grade Officials on central deputation were also granted proforma promotions in accordance with IPS (Pay) Rules.
These cadre changes form part of a broader administrative reshuffle that also included promotions for senior IAS officers, indicating the government’s push to strengthen leadership across civil and police services from the very start of 2026.
In related developments, senior IPS officer K.L.N. Rao has been appointed in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat following the retirement of Vikas Sahay, with a formal proposal sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for approval.
The high-profile promotions underscore the government’s efforts to streamline law enforcement leadership and enhance operational effectiveness ahead of key administrative and public safety priorities this year.
