Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today called for taking up the nationwide cleanliness campaign as a mission to make Gujarat a model state in the cleanliness too, as it did in making the state a ‘development model’.
Addressing village panchayat sarpanchs and office-bearers from Gandhinanagr across the state through satellite technology under the aegis of BISAG, she said that making Gujarat a clean state, even before Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary in 2019 could be the state’s best tribute to the great soul born in Gujarat. And, she said, it is achievable because cleanliness is ingrained among the Gujaratis.
Mrs. Patel asked the people to take up massive tree plantation drive and eradication of social evils like smoking from daily life, alongside cleaning the streets and public places and building toilets. She praised the efforts of tribal women and organizations like Vivekanad Yuva Kendras in creating awareness about cleanliness and acting on it. Development Commissioner Pankaj Joshi and Rural Development Commissioner V. Thiruppugazh were present on the occasion.
