Cloud burst like situation in Surat; water level raised in Ukai Dam

In mid-June, the southwest monsoon hit strongly. Surat’s outskirts—especially Umarpada—saw intense rainfall, with around 399 mm in just 8 hours, triggering a cloud‑burst‑like event.

Heavy rains drenched urban zones like Vesu, Limbayat, and Kadodara, submerging streets and flooding low‑lying areas. Municipal crews and rescue teams rescued children and assisted motorists. Raised water levels in Ukai Dam and overflowing local rivers prompted red alerts in Surat and surrounding districts. Nearby villages were urged to remain indoors. Over 900 residents sheltered temporarily, with starting relief operations as water began to recede.
