Vice President Of India Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigned Citing Health Reasons

Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21, 2025, citing health reasons and the need to follow medical advice. The surprise resignation came on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament after he chaired meetings and presided over Rajya Sabha proceedings. Concerns stem from previous hospitalisation at AIIMS in March (cardiac issues) and fainting at a public event in June. He is the first VP to resign mid-term on health grounds. The Election Commission must now schedule an early election to fill the vacancy.
Opposition leaders, including Jairam Ramesh, called his exit “shocking” and suggested there might be deeper reasons.
