Jammu & Kashmir personnel received the highest number of Gallantry Medals, followed by members of the CRPF and BSF
Notably, a wife-husband duo serving at Thane Central Jail—Superintendent Rani Bhosale and Additional Superintendent Rajaram Bhosale—were among those honoured, along with several others from Maharashtra’s prisons department.
Armed Forces & CAPFs Gallantry Awards
127 Gallantry Awards, 40 Distinguished Service Awards, and 290 Mention-in-Despatches (MiD) were approved by President Murmu on the eve of Independence Day 2025.
These include:
Kirti Chakra (peacetime second-highest): 4 awardees (Captain Lalrinawma Sailo, Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, Lance Naik Meenatchi Sundaram A, Sepoy Janjal Pravin Prabhakar—all Army) .
Vir Chakra (wartime third-highest): 15 awards to IAF and Army personnel for their role in Operation Sindoor.
Shaurya Chakra (peacetime third-highest): 16 recipients across various services.
Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry): 2, and 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry) .
6 Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry), 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
Several Yudh Seva medals for exceptional wartime service: 7 Sarvottam (highest), 9 Uttam, and 24 Yudh Seva Medals
