Opposition leader Shehzad Khan Pathan said, “The AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections are coming up soon. Accordingly, the ruling BJP rulers have sought suggestions from the public for the budget for the year 2026-27. However, the budget of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation from 2021-22 to 2025-26 is approved by the BJP rulers every year, after which the budget is revised at the end of the year. This is a bitter and stark reality.
“When the BJP authorities and the administration have not been able to use the 2 crores approved in the budget every year, it seems ridiculous to ask for suggestions for the new year. Despite the budget of crores every year, public works are hampered, and problems are increasing day by day, which is the reality. For example, dilapidated roads, polluted Sabarmati river, air pollution, traffic jams, garbage disposal, rainwater disposal, epidemics, removal of piranha dump sites, drainage water problem, many problems like this have persisted.”
Many proposals approved by the BJP authorities of Ahmedabad Mun. Corp have not yet been implemented. Which proves the administrative failure of the ruling BJP and the BJP, which is expert in giving lollipops to the people and making false promises, misleads the people. Which is a shame for the ruling BJP. It seems that the will of the ruling BJP to provide smooth administration and good basic facilities to the people is dead, only in the name of getting applause, the works are approved and only remain in the budget book. Considering all these matters, before implementing any kind of work of the budget, it would be appropriate to first make the necessary arrangements, first solve the various problems of the people and then ask for suggestions from the people.
While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has sought suggestions from the public for the budget for the year 2026-27, the opposition has termed this as a mere show. It has been alleged that the talk is aimed at misleading the people when elections are coming up.
Talking about the pending works of the budget, many important works have remained incomplete from 2021-22 to 2025-26. The work of White Topping Road is not even 50 percent complete yet. There was talk of building 21 pink toilets, but that work has not been completed either. Also, despite the announcement of providing smart phones to the students of the school board, they have not been distributed yet.
The work of Kathwada Gaushala is only on paper, many projects like riverfront fire station, plastic crusher machine in all zones of the city, renovation of Sardar Patel Stadium, rehabilitation of zonewise drainage and storm water lines, modern iconic laboratory, water distribution station in new areas, processing plant to produce CNG gas, Ahmedabad Haat in the eastern area, as well as wetland zone from Vasna Barrage to Vishala are still incomplete.
Apart from that, the work of removing the houses under pressure and allocating alternative housing and installing smart poles powered by solar and wind energy has not even started. The budget is approved every year during the BJP rule in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation from 2021-22 to 2025-26, yet some works are seen only on paper.
Regarding this, the Standing Committee Chairman says that allegations have been made by the opposition, but most of the work has been completed. He said that the projects that were laid by the BJP have also been inaugurated.
