Ahmedabad, (Date): The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, was celebrated with great reverence and enthusiasm across the country today. Devotees gathered at Gurudwaras early in the morning to offer prayers and participate in special religious ceremonies marking Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab.
The day’s rituals began with Prabhat Pheri, a devotional early morning procession where devotees walked through streets singing Gurbani Kirtans. Many Gurudwaras held the Akhand Path, a 48-hour continuous recital of the Guru Granth Sahib, which concluded this morning.
A large number of devotees participated in Nagar Kirtan processions, displaying religious flags, performing traditional Gatka martial arts, and spreading the message of peace and unity given by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji—“Ik Onkar” (There is One God)—and his teachings on equality, service, and social harmony were highlighted through sermons and discourses. He strongly emphasized breaking caste and religious barriers, promoting humanity and compassion above all.
As part of the celebrations, Langar (community kitchen) was organized in Gurudwaras, where free meals were served to people of all communities, symbolizing equality and collective service.
In several cities, homes, streets, and Gurudwaras were beautifully decorated with lights and flowers. Young volunteers actively engaged in distributing prasad and helping with crowd arrangements.
Leaders across the nation extended greetings on the occasion, calling Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings a timeless guide for peace, harmony, and universal brotherhood.
