Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel marked a historic milestone for the state and the nation by launching Ahmedabad Metro Rail’s first indigenously built ‘Make in India’ metro train. The launch took place during his visit to the advanced manufacturing plant of Titagarh Rail Systems near Kolkata.

The metro coaches handed over to Ahmedabad are entirely designed and manufactured under India’s flagship vision of “Make in India” and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking on the occasion, CM Patel described this achievement as a proud moment for Gujarat and a major boost to India’s self-reliant manufacturing ecosystem.

The newly launched metro coaches are constructed using high-grade stainless steel and equipped with modern passenger comfort features. The design elements, colour patterns, and interior theme have been created to reflect Ahmedabad’s culture, heritage, and traditional identity, making the trains uniquely connected to the city.

This development is expected to greatly enhance the city’s urban transport network and strengthen metro rail operations with locally manufactured technology, reducing foreign dependency.
The event highlights Gujarat’s growing leadership in public transport infrastructure, smart mobility and sustainable urban development.
