India’s First Bullet Train to Run on August 15, 2027; Surat–Bilimora to Be First Operational Route

Ahmedabad: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has made a major announcement regarding the Ahmedabad–Mumbai Bullet Train project, stating that India’s first bullet train will begin operations on August 15, 2027.

According to the Minister, the first bullet train service will be launched on the Surat–Bilimora route. Following this, the high-speed train operations will be rolled out in phases on additional sections, including Vapi–Surat, Vapi–Ahmedabad, Thane–Ahmedabad, and finally the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor.

The phased commissioning is aimed at ensuring timely completion and smooth operations of India’s first high-speed rail project. The bullet train project is considered a landmark step in modernising the country’s rail infrastructure and significantly reducing travel time between major cities in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Officials said the project is progressing steadily and the phased launch will allow passengers to experience high-speed rail travel for the first time in India, starting with key sections in Gujarat.
