Ahmedabad: The development of Ahmedabad’s iconic Heritage Route is progressing at full speed, with civic authorities stepping up efforts to enhance the city’s historic core and improve the experience for tourists and residents alike. As part of the project, the Calico Dome is also set to be developed, adding further value to the heritage precinct.

According to officials, stone paving work has already been completed on the Heritage Route stretch between the Kalupur Swaminarayan Temple and Relief Road. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing redevelopment initiative aimed at preserving and showcasing Ahmedabad’s rich architectural and cultural legacy.

In the next phase, authorities plan to develop the entire 2.25-kilometre route up to Jama Masjid, one of the city’s most prominent heritage landmarks. The upgraded route will feature improved walkways, heritage-friendly infrastructure, and enhanced public amenities.

The project is designed to create a seamless and immersive experience for visitors, with plans to introduce modern facilities, signage, and tourist-friendly infrastructure along the route. Officials said the objective is to ensure that tourists from India and abroad can explore and enjoy Ahmedabad’s heritage more comfortably and meaningfully.
Once completed, the Heritage Route redevelopment is expected to boost heritage tourism, strengthen Ahmedabad’s global image as a UNESCO World Heritage City, and contribute to the preservation of its historic urban fabric.
