Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has once again come under the radar of drug traffickers. However, due to the alertness of security and investigating agencies, a major drug smuggling attempt has been foiled with the seizure of high-value narcotics worth crores of rupees.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, authorities conducted intensive checks on passengers arriving from Bangkok. During the operation, officials intercepted four suspicious passengers and recovered a consignment of highly potent, prohibited hybrid marijuana with an estimated international market value of ₹12.50 crore. The contraband, considered far more expensive and intoxicating than ordinary cannabis, was cleverly concealed in plastic packets.
The seizure has exposed links to an international drug smuggling racket. During interrogation, shocking details emerged. According to police and customs officials, one of the arrested accused is a resident of Vadodara, while the remaining three are natives of Punjab. Investigators are now probing the purpose for which the drugs were brought into Gujarat and attempting to identify other members and masterminds behind the network.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the smuggling was carried out due to the high demand for foreign hybrid marijuana in major Indian cities, particularly among the youth. Authorities have arrested all four accused, confiscated the entire consignment, and initiated further legal proceedings under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials believe more revelations are likely as the probe into the international drug network continues.
