Darshanaben Vaghela Launches ‘Ahmedabad Next’ Mobility Vision for Olympic 2036

At Riverfront House in Ahmedabad, Minister of State for Urban Development Darshanaben Vaghela inaugurated the ‘Mobility Exhibition’ organised jointly by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Shift Transport under the banner of “Ahmedabad Next.”

The exhibition, which will continue until 23 February 2026, presents a comprehensive and forward-looking mobility roadmap aimed at transforming Ahmedabad into a world-class city in preparation for the 2036 Olympic Games.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Vaghela outlined an ambitious vision to upgrade the city’s transport infrastructure to global standards. The roadmap focuses on sustainable mobility, advanced public transport systems, and environmentally responsible urban planning.

A key highlight of the plan includes the deployment of more than 3,000 electric buses across the city to strengthen public transport while significantly reducing carbon emissions. The expansion of metro connectivity through the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation network is also central to the strategy, ensuring seamless travel across key urban corridors.

Additionally, the proposed integration of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is expected to enhance intercity and suburban connectivity, easing congestion and improving commuting efficiency.

The exhibition strongly emphasizes sustainability and climate responsibility. As part of the net-zero carbon emission target, the government has announced 100% tax exemption on electric vehicles, encouraging citizens to shift towards cleaner transportation alternatives.

Officials stated that the combined efforts under the “Ahmedabad Next” initiative aim not only to modernize infrastructure but also to promote innovation, smart mobility solutions, and citizen-centric urban development.

The Mobility Exhibition showcases emerging technologies in electric mobility, intelligent transport systems, green infrastructure, and integrated urban planning models. Industry stakeholders, policymakers, and urban planners are participating to discuss strategies that align Ahmedabad’s development with global standards.

With a strong focus on sustainability, connectivity, and future readiness, the initiative marks a significant step toward positioning Ahmedabad as a potential Olympic host city and a model for urban transformation in India.
