Unseasonal rainfall accompanied by strong winds has caused widespread disruption across Saurashtra and Kutch, leading to significant damage to the power infrastructure managed by Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited.
According to reports, nearly 690 villages across the region were plunged into darkness due to the adverse weather conditions. The storm led to the shutdown of around 53 power feeders, while approximately 335 electric poles were damaged or collapsed.
The worst-hit areas include Jamnagar and Dwarka districts, where power supply was disrupted in about 302 villages. Strong winds alone resulted in the collapse of nearly 98 electric poles in these areas.
In Rajkot district, electricity supply was affected in 112 villages, with more than 50 power poles reported to have fallen. Similarly, Morbi district saw outages in 132 villages, while in Bhuj (Kutch), power supply was disrupted in 163 villages.
Additionally, around 8 villages in Surendranagar district also faced electricity disruptions due to the impact of the unseasonal weather.
Authorities and PGVCL teams have been deployed on a war footing to restore power supply, with repair work underway despite challenging weather conditions.
