DGP GS Malik Addresses Bomb Threat Emails and Recalls Ahmedabad Plane Crash Response

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik has appealed to the media and public to exercise caution while reporting bomb threat emails, emphasizing that such messages are often intended to create fear and panic among citizens.

Referring to recent threat emails sent to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the RSS, and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Malik said the messages claimed that bombs would explode at specific times, including 1:11 PM, 3:15 PM, and 5:11 PM. However, extensive searches and security checks were conducted at all concerned locations, and no suspicious objects were found.

According to preliminary investigations, the emails were routed through a VPN server based in the United States. Similar threat emails have also been reported in several other states across India. The investigation has been handed over to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch and cyber security agencies.

Malik urged media organizations to avoid giving excessive publicity to such threats, stating that the perpetrators seek attention and panic. He noted that in many European countries, unverified threat messages often receive limited coverage to prevent unnecessary public alarm.

DGP Recalls Ahmedabad Plane Crash Response Ahead of Anniversary

Speaking ahead of the June 12 anniversary of the Ahmedabad plane crash tragedy, DGP Malik described the incident as one of the most heartbreaking events he had witnessed.

He said authorities immediately focused on traffic management and established a green corridor to facilitate emergency response. Security arrangements were also strengthened at Civil Hospital, which received a large number of victims and later hosted visits by several VVIP leaders.

To expedite the identification process, nearly 200 police station writers and staff members were deployed for DNA documentation and related procedures. Family members’ samples were collected and processed on priority.

Malik stated that the first victim was identified within 20 hours of the crash, describing it as an exceptionally swift response by global standards. In total, 260 people lost their lives, including 19 individuals who were not on board the aircraft.

He added that the Gujarat government ensured comprehensive support for affected families. Municipal corporation officials, police personnel, doctors, and other agencies worked around the clock. Along with mortal remains, victims’ personal valuables were carefully documented and returned to their families.

The DGP praised the coordinated efforts of police, medical teams, and government departments, stating that their dedication helped manage one of the most challenging disasters in recent memory.
