4 September 2026 : Ahmedabad is all set to welcome some of the world’s leading para archers as the Hyundai World Archery Para Series (WAPS) 2026 will be held at the iconic Sabarmati Riverfront from September 5 to 9, 2026.
The international event, being hosted in India for the first time, will bring together 108 archers from 19 countries, along with nearly 200 athletes, coaches and support staff.
The championship will feature competitions in Recurve Open, Compound Open, W1 and Visually Impaired categories, providing a major international platform for para archers from across the world.
India’s leading para archers, including Paris 2024 Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh, World Para Archery Champion and Paralympic medallist Sheetal Devi, Arjuna Award winner Rakesh Kumar and Shyam Sundar Swami, are set to represent the country.
The participating nations include India, China, Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Slovakia, the United States, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cyprus, Czechia, Iraq and the Russian Federation.
Archery Association of India President and former Union Minister Arjun Munda said that hosting such international competitions will boost the morale of Indian athletes, strengthen sports infrastructure and provide greater opportunities to emerging sporting talent.
The championship’s official anthem was launched, while the official mascot “Lakshyam” and the event jersey were also unveiled.
The event is being organised by the Archery Association of India, in collaboration with the Gujarat Government, Sports Authority of Gujarat and Sports Authority of India.
Qualification rounds will be held from September 5 to 7, followed by the finals and medal ceremonies on September 8 and 9 at the Sabarmati Riverfront Plaza.
The prestigious event is expected to further strengthen Ahmedabad and Gujarat’s position as a destination for major international sporting events, while also giving fresh momentum to India’s growing ambitions of hosting global multi-sport competitions in the coming years.
