Sheetal Devi Claims Individual Gold After Her Compound Mixed Team Bronze
Amdavad, September 9, 2026 — India signed off from the World Archery Para Series 2026 with a
13-medal haul — four gold, two silver and seven bronze, as its first hosting of the event concluded at the iconic Sabarmati Riverfront
Organized by the Archery Association of India (AAI) with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Sports Authority of Gujarat, and Sports Authority of India, the competition featured athletes across the Para Recurve Open, Para Compound Open, W1 and Visually Impaired categories. The qualification rounds were held from September 5 to 7, followed by the finals and medal ceremonies at the Sabarmati Riverfront Plaza on September 8 and 9, 2026.
The five-day competition brought together 200 athletes, coaches and support staff from across the world, including representatives from the People’s Republic of China, Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Slovakia, the United States of America, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cyprus, Czechia, Iraq and the Russian Federation.
India’s medal campaign was led by strong performances across the team events, with the country securing podium finishes in all three Para Recurve team events. Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi won Gold in the Para Recurve Men’s Team event, while Bhawna and Pooja secured Silver in the Para Recurve Women’s Team event. Harvinder Singh and Bhawna then combined to win Gold in the Para Recurve Mixed Team event
In Para Compound, Toman Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami won Gold in the Men’s Team event, while Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar secured Bronze in the Mixed Team event
Sheetal Devi added the standout individual result for India, winning Gold in the Para Compound Women’s Individual event. In a thrilling final against Aizada Seidan of Kazakhstan, Sheetal prevailed after the match ended level at 144–144, winning the shoot-off 10–9
The medal tally also included individual Bronze medals for Bhawna in Para Recurve Women’s Individual, Sarita in Para Compound Women’s Individual and Toman Kumar in Para Compound Men’s Individual
India’s W1 archers also contributed three team medals, with Adil Md Nazir Ansari and Swati Chaudhary winning Silver in the W1 Mixed Team event, while Adil Md Nazir Ansari and Vinayak Amol Breed and Swati Chaudhary and Vasundhra Teotia secured Bronze in the W1 Men’s and Women’s Team events respectively. Swati Chaudhary added another Bronze in the W1 Women’s Individual event
The event also served as an important competitive opportunity for athletes preparing for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games scheduled to be held from 18 to 24 October 2026, providing a high-level international platform to assess their preparation and competitive readiness.

Bagging thirteen medals – four gold, two silver and seven bronze, across different categories, reflects the talent, hard work, and determination of our athletes. What makes their achievement even more special is that these performances came as India hosted the World Archery Para Series for the first time. We got the opportunity to welcome the world to Amdavad, and our athletes responded by showing what Indian Para Archery is capable of on the international stage. I hope this performance inspires many more young athletes to take up the sport and believe that they too can compete and win at the highest level.”

The successful conclusion of the World Archery Para Series 2026 in Amdavad marks an important new chapter for Para Archery in India.
