Jamnagar: In a significant verdict, the Special POCSO Court in Jamnagar has sentenced Nitin Dosaji Manek to death for the murder of an eight-year-old girl in Sikka, Jamnagar district. The court classified the crime as one of the “rarest of rare” cases. The accused was also sentenced to life imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and fined ₹50,000.

According to reports, the incident occurred on January 12, 2025. The child was allegedly subjected to prolonged physical torture before being killed. The accused was identified during the police investigation, following which scientific, technical and documentary evidence was collected.

Chargesheet Filed Within 35 Days
Jamnagar police completed the investigation and filed the chargesheet in court within 35 days of the incident. During the trial, the prosecution presented 23 witnesses and approximately 95 documentary exhibits to establish its case.
After examining the evidence and considering the gravity of the crime, the court awarded the death penalty for murder and life imprisonment under the POCSO Act, along with a fine of ₹50,000.

Deputy CM Praises Police and Prosecution
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi congratulated the Jamnagar police team and government prosecutors for their efforts in securing a verdict in the case. He highlighted the importance of timely investigation and justice for the victim and her family.
The verdict underscores the serious legal consequences for crimes involving violence against children. The case will remain subject to any applicable appeal and confirmation proceedings under Indian law.
