Adani Logistics Partners Global Shipping Group CMA CGM to Deploy Electric Trucks in Gujarat

The partnership will introduce electric trucks into container deliveries from Adani Logistics’ inland depot at Tumb, Vapi, in Gujarat, extending electric mobility to road freight as part of India’s largest truck fleet for container movement.

Vapi (Gujarat): Adani Logistics Limited (ALL), a part of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), India’s largest integrated transport operator, has partnered with global shipping and logistics group CMA CGM to deploy electric trucks for container deliveries from its Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Tumb, Vapi, in Gujarat. The deployment forms part of India’s largest truck fleet for container movement and extends electric mobility to the inland leg of container transportation, connecting the depot with customers’ factories and warehouses.

Under the store-door delivery model, containers are transported by road from the depot directly to customers’ premises. The service connects container handling facilities with designated delivery points across the supply chain.

CMA CGM is the first shipping line to use the newly deployed electric fleet, with its containers forming the first consignment transported during the flag-off ceremony. The partnership combines ALL’s inland transportation operations with CMA CGM’s shipping network to integrate electric vehicles into container delivery operations.

Electric trucks produce no tailpipe emissions during operation, offering an opportunity to reduce the environmental impact of road freight. Data shows that electric trucks eliminate tailpipe emissions, helping reduce pollution along the delivery route. The overall carbon savings depend on the electricity source used for charging.

The deployment highlights how collaboration between logistics operators and shipping lines can support the adoption of alternative vehicle technologies across the container transportation chain. Integrating electric trucks into regular freight operations requires careful planning around charging infrastructure, vehicle range and delivery schedules to maintain reliable service for customers.

The initiative at Tumb marks a step towards lower-emission road transportation within Gujarat’s wider logistics network.
