Ahmedabad 148th Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra preparations in full swing

Ahmedabad’s Rath Yatra is the city’s annual chariot festival, celebrating Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra. It is a vibrant public celebration, it ranks as India’s third-largest after Puri and Kolkata. This year 148th Rath Yatra comes on June 27, 2025 ,Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya muhurat. Yatra Starts at 7 AM from Jagannath Temple, Jamalpur to 16 km across Old City via Saraspur maternal home of Jagannathji and returns by 8 PM to Jagannath temple.

Lakhs of devotees get darshan throughout the route of Yatra. They pull chariots. Prasad of mung and jamun is distributed. Mangla Aarti at ~4:30 AM followed by Pahind Vidhi—a symbolic road-cleansing by dignitaries including Amit Shah and Gujarat’s Chief Minister.

Volunteers have come together at the temple to stitch traditional khes (stoles) that will be worn by helpers and participants during rituals and on the chariot—a sign of devotion and community unity

Temple trustees regularly meet with Ahmedabad Police leadership—such as Commissioner Sanjay Srivastava and DGP Vikas Sahay—to coordinate ritual timelines, security plans, and logistics, including positioning GPS trackers, CCTV, and drone surveillance
