Ahmedabad: A shocking murder near Kankaria Lake has sent shockwaves across the city after a 17-year-old minor girl was allegedly killed by her fiancé on the night of Promise Day. The accused, identified as Mohammad Uwais Pathan, has been arrested by the Maninagar Police.

According to police officials, the incident occurred around 10:30 pm near Gate No. 7 of Kankaria Lake. The accused had reportedly called the minor girl, a resident of Gomtipur area, to meet him at the location.

Investigators said that during the meeting, Uwais allegedly attacked the girl using a sharp-edged Kota stone and fatally struck her on the head. The brutal assault led to her death on the spot.
In a disturbing turn of events, after committing the crime, the accused allegedly called the victim’s father, Nasirbhai, and informed him, saying, “I have killed your daughter. I am going to the police station.” He then reportedly surrendered himself at the police station, where he confessed to the crime. Police immediately took him into custody.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim and the accused were engaged around four to five months ago. However, sources said the girl was unwilling to proceed with the marriage due to the accused’s aggressive behavior.
Just a day before the incident, she had reportedly refused to continue the engagement. Police believe that anger and resentment over the broken engagement may have driven the accused to commit the crime.
Maninagar Police have registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The accused has been formally arrested, and further investigation is underway. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the Kankaria Lake vicinity and recording statements from witnesses and family members.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern in Ahmedabad, raising serious questions about violence arising from personal disputes and the safety of women.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
