Second phase of demolition drive at Chandola Lake will start tomorrow on Tuesday.The drive is to clearing entire area of illegal encroachments said Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik. Talking media Commisioner stated that parts of Chandola Lake, especially those long occupied by Bangladeshis, had turned into a safe haven for illegal activities and a hub of criminal activities. The City Police and AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will jointly coordinate the demolition activity. AMC Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani has ensured tight coordination between the police and civic authorities during the drive.For smooth operation 3,000 police force along with 25 SRP State Reserve Police teams, will be deployed to maintain law and order and for security reasons.

First phase of took place earlier this year, cleared approximately 1.5 lakh sq metres of encroached land. In second phase aims to clear an additional 2.5 lakh sq metres, targeting the remaining illegal structures around the lake. Commissioner Malik also informed that at least 2–3 days have been allocated for this demolition phase. AMC will also provide temporary housing accommodations for displaced localites, especially those from marginalised communities.
Malik said that 250 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in 2025 alone, with 207 of them from the Chandola Lake area. As many as 200 have already been deported to Bangladesh.
