Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Issues Prohibitory Order Ahead of NMMS and GPSC Exams

Ahmedabad, January 2, 2026: In view of the upcoming competitive examinations and to ensure smooth conduct, law and order, and a peaceful environment for candidates, the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

As per the notification, the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Examination 2025–26 will be held on January 3, 2026, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at two examination centres in Ahmedabad city—Aditya International School near Dastan Circle, Hanspura, Naroda, and Shivam Vidyalaya, Parshwanath Township, New Naroda.

Similarly, the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) State Tax Inspector Class-3 Examination (Advertisement No. 27/2025–26) is scheduled on January 4, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm across 50 examination centres in different parts of Ahmedabad city.

To prevent any disturbance and to maintain a calm atmosphere around the examination centres, Police Commissioner G.S. Malik has imposed restrictions in areas falling under the Ahmedabad City Police Commissionerate.

Restricted Areas

  • All examination centres and a 100-metre radius around them
  • Xerox centres/shops within a one-kilometre radius of the examination centres

Prohibited Activities

  • Gathering of four or more persons within 100 metres of examination centres
  • Operation of xerox centres near the examination venues
  • Use of loudspeakers or high-volume sound systems around examination sites
  • Carrying of mobile phones or electronic devices by unauthorised persons at examination centres
  • Entry of unauthorised individuals during examination hours
  • Carrying of unauthorised writing material or any unfair means
  • Parking or halting vehicles in a manner that obstructs public traffic near examination centres
  • Entry with any kind of weapon at examination venues

Exemptions

The order will not apply to police personnel, home guards, and officials or staff deployed on examination duty.

Duration of the Order

  • For NMMS Examination: January 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • For GPSC State Tax Inspector Examination: January 4, 2026, from 9:00 am to 4:07 pm

Violation of the order will attract punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, the notification stated.

The Police Commissioner has directed that wide publicity of the order be ensured through display of notices in prominent places, circulation on Ahmedabad City Police social media platforms, and announcements through local newspapers, All India Radio, and Doordarshan.

All unarmed head constables and police officers of higher rank serving in the Ahmedabad Commissionerate have been authorised to register complaints against violators under the relevant legal provisions.

The order was issued on January 2, 2026.
