The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday presented its revised budget for the financial year 2026–27, with a strong emphasis on citizen welfare, sustainable development, and urban infrastructure. The budget was presented by Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani, announcing a total provision of ₹18,518 crore for the city’s development.
Originally, the Municipal Commissioner had proposed a draft budget of ₹17,018 crore. After extensive discussions and careful review, the AMC Standing Committee approved a substantial enhancement of ₹1,500 crore, reflecting the corporation’s intent to accelerate development works and strengthen civic services across Ahmedabad.
This year’s budget has been framed with a clear “Citizen-Centric” approach. For the first time, inputs and suggestions from thousands of Ahmedabad citizens were actively considered during the budget formulation process. The administration stated that the goal is to ensure that public funds directly translate into improved quality of life for residents across all zones of the city.
The AMC Budget 2026–27 prioritises multiple sectors critical to urban growth:
- Basic Civic Services: Strengthening water supply, drainage systems, sanitation, solid waste management, and public health infrastructure.
- Sustainability & Environment: Increased focus on green initiatives, climate resilience, energy efficiency, and sustainable urban planning.
- Heritage Conservation: Preservation and restoration of Ahmedabad’s historic and cultural landmarks, in line with its UNESCO World Heritage City status.
- Ease of Movement: Major investments in road development, junction improvements, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and public transport support systems.
- Inclusive City Development: Facilities and infrastructure aimed at women, senior citizens, children, and persons with disabilities to ensure equitable access to urban services.
- City Beautification: Urban landscaping, riverfront enhancements, public spaces, gardens, and aesthetic upgrades across key city areas.
- Governance & Citizen Services: Digital governance initiatives and citizen-centric service delivery to improve transparency, efficiency, and ease of access.
Recognising traffic congestion as one of Ahmedabad’s key urban challenges, the AMC has announced several important projects focused on traffic management and mobility improvement. These include junction redesigns, road widening where feasible, smart traffic solutions, and improved connectivity to reduce travel time and enhance commuter safety.
Presenting the budget, AMC officials emphasized that the 2026–27 financial plan aims to balance rapid urban growth with sustainability, heritage preservation, and citizen comfort. The increased budget allocation highlights the corporation’s commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and future-ready Ahmedabad, aligned with the expectations and aspirations of its residents.
