New Delhi, February 5, 2026:Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail on Wednesday after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea seeking relief in multiple cheque-bounce cases linked to unpaid financial dues.
The court had earlier directed the actor to surrender by February 4, after refusing to grant him additional time to comply with previous court orders. Following the rejection of his final plea, Rajpal Yadav appeared before jail authorities and was taken into custody to serve his sentence.
The Delhi High Court observed that the actor had failed to honour undertakings given earlier and had not complied with payment commitments despite repeated opportunities. The court noted that leniency had already been extended multiple times and no further relief was warranted.
The case relates to cheque-bounce matters under the Negotiable Instruments Act, stemming from long-pending financial disputes. Rajpal Yadav had been convicted earlier and sentenced to imprisonment, which was temporarily stayed while he sought time to settle the dues.
However, due to non-compliance and repeated delays, the court lifted the stay and ordered immediate surrender.
The development has sent shockwaves through the film industry, as Rajpal Yadav is widely known for his comic roles in films such as Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Chup Chup Ke. As of now, no official statement has been issued by the actor or his legal team.
Legal experts say the actor may still explore settlement options or legal remedies, but only after complying with the court’s surrender order. Further proceedings will depend on whether dues are cleared and subsequent court decisions.
