Bomb Threat Emails Force Evacuation of Gujarat High Court and Five District Courts

Ahmedabad: Security agencies were put on high alert across Gujarat after bomb threat emails were received targeting the Gujarat High Court and five district courts, prompting immediate evacuation and suspension of judicial proceedings on Tuesday.

According to officials, threatening emails warning of explosions using powerful explosives were sent to court authorities, demanding that the premises be vacated immediately. As a precautionary measure, judges, advocates, court staff and litigants were evacuated from the buildings.

The courts affected include the Gujarat High Court in Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad City Civil and Sessions Court, and district courts in Surat, Anand, Bharuch and Rajkot. In some districts, access to court complexes was completely restricted until security clearance was completed.

Following the threats, Bomb Disposal Squads, dog squads and local police teams were deployed to conduct intensive searches of court premises, including courtrooms, chambers, parking areas and surrounding zones. Judicial proceedings were temporarily suspended during the security operations.

Police officials stated that no suspicious objects or explosives have been found so far, and initial assessments suggest the emails may be hoaxes. However, authorities are taking no chances and have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the threatening messages. Cybercrime teams are examining the email headers and digital trails.

Senior police officials said similar threat emails have been reported in recent months targeting public institutions, and efforts are underway to identify whether the incidents are linked.

Court activities are expected to resume only after full security clearance is issued by bomb disposal teams. Meanwhile, security around court complexes across Gujarat has been tightened as a preventive measure.
