The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the by-election to the 111–Umreth Assembly constituency in Gujarat. The seat became vacant following the demise of sitting MLA Govindbhai Parmar.
According to the official announcement, the election notification will be issued on March 30, 2026. Candidates will be able to file their nomination papers until April 6, 2026. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 7, 2026, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 9, 2026.
Voting for the by-election will be held on April 23, 2026, and the counting of votes along with the declaration of results will take place on May 4, 2026.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect from March 15, 2026, following the announcement of the by-election.
The Umreth constituency, located in Anand district, fell vacant after the passing of MLA Govindbhai Parmar. The Election Commission has also announced by-elections for several Assembly seats in other states including Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Tripura along with the Umreth seat in Gujarat.
Nomination papers for the Umreth by-election can be filed between March 30 and April 6, 2026, excluding public holidays.
The by-election is expected to draw significant political attention in the region as parties prepare to contest the vacant seat in Anand district.
