Vanzara, Gujarat cop released from Sabarmati jail today

Today in Ahmedabad, D G Vanzara,Gujarat cop was released from Sabarmati Jail at 12 pm. Vanzara addressed his supporters outside the jail. He was garlanded by supporters. Vanzara was the Deputy Inspector General for Gujarat, India. He has been in jail since 2007 in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

After release Vanzara will meet his family and friends will proceed straight to Mumbai by flight.

Dressed in saffron jacket, Vanzara who was sitting with anti-terror organization head Bitta said that the entire world is fighting against terrorism. Government, forces, people are taking action against terrorism. He was just one of them.

Vanzara said he has got justice by judiciary without intervention of anyone else.

When asked whether the encounters were fake, Vanzara said, “normally a case is registered, investigation is carried out, evidences are collected and charges are framed in such cases, but that is not the end of story. If this much are enough to prove anyone guilty, why judiciary is there? An accused not proven guilty is innocent. The case is subjuidice and I don’t want to give my commentary on that, but I want to say that it is my legal stand that encounters were not fake, but the case was fake, the investigation was fake. Our actions were genuine.”

In reply to other question, Vanzara said morale of not just Gujarat police, but entire police force, para military and military force is down due to the encounter cases against police officers of Gujarat. He said, “in past one news would travel from one part of the country to other part of the country in six months time. But today due to electronic media, news travel speedily across the country. All forces in uniform have been impacted by the actions against cops in Gujarat.”

Media persons repeatedly asked Vanzara about a letter he had written more than a year ago expressing frustration. Vanzara however every-time in his reply said that he lives in present time and not in past or in future.

Vanzara who came out from jail today after granted bail in two encounter cases by CBI courts in Ahmeabad and Mumbai was welcomed with garland and slogans by his family, friends and large number of his supporters mainly from Vanzara community.
