Former National Coordinator of NSUI Bhavik Solanki criticized Gujarat Government for shut down Career Corners in schools & colleges

Former National Coordinator of NSUI, Shri Bhavik Solanki, has strongly criticized the BJP-led Gujarat Government for the decision to shut down Career Corners functioning in schools and colleges across the state.

He stated that Career Corners have been operating for years in educational institutions to guide students on career opportunities, skills, courses, and job prospects. These centers helped students understand what to pursue after studies, which fields offer growth, and what skills are required for various professions.

However, the Labour and Employment Department has recently issued a circular to lock down and discontinue 1075 Career Corners in schools and 295 in colleges, which Solanki called an unjust and irresponsible decision that will directly harm students’ future.

He further pointed out that over 40,000 teaching posts in government schools across Gujarat have remained vacant for a long time, leading to declining educational quality. Now, with the closure of Career Guidance facilities, students—especially from rural and remote areas—will be deprived of proper direction and employment-related information.

Solanki emphasized that the primary objective of Career Corner schemes was:

  • To provide career guidance to students from villages and underdeveloped areas
  • To create career awareness in schools and colleges
  • To help students understand education pathways, skill development, and job opportunities

There were around 2000 Career Corners in Gujarat (1705 in schools and 295 in colleges). With their closure, students will now lose access to important information regarding career options, vocational courses, and technical training opportunities, pushing the youth of Gujarat further away from employment opportunities. Calling this move a serious setback for students, Solanki demanded that the Gujarat Government immediately withdraw this irrational decision and restore Career Corners in all schools and colleges across the state.
