Gujarat Police Salary Delay: Thousands of Personnel Face Pay Crisis Amid Grant Shortage
Gandhinagar, January 1, 2026 — As Gujarat enters the New Year, thousands of police personnel are facing delays in receiving their monthly salaries due to a shortfall in grant funds, triggering widespread concern and unrest within the force.
According to official correspondence from the Home and Police Departments, inadequate grant allocation has prevented the December 2025 salary bills from being submitted to the treasury by the scheduled deadline of December 23, 2025, causing the delay.
The grant shortage is reported to affect police personnel in police commissionerates, range offices, CID Crime, Intelligence units, Railway Police, Armed Units, SCRB Gandhinagar, and offices of all District Superintendents of Police.
The shortage has sparked frustration and anxiety among police ranks, with many officers struggling to manage family expenses, loan EMIs and everyday needs as salaries remain unpaid. Officials say the delay stems from administrative lapses and delays in fund release, rather than a permanent budgetary deficit.
Critics and opposition parties have questioned government priorities, noting that while the state government has spent crores on cultural festivals and public events, funds for police salaries were not adequately provided. Calls have been made for enhanced transparency and quicker resolution of the grant-release process. A circular issued by the police accounts department warned that until sufficient grants are released, the delay in salary disbursement may continue, adding to unease within the force.
State government spokespersons have acknowledged the issue and assured that efforts are underway to expedite grant approval and salary payments. Authorities have also emphasised their commitment to clearing all outstanding dues as soon as funds are released.
As pressure mounts from within the police force and opposition leaders, all eyes are on the government’s next steps to address the grant shortage and ensure that the essential workforce responsible for law and order receives timely remuneration.
