Ahmedabad, Gujarat — January 22, 2026 In a shocking murder–suicide incident at the upscale NRI Tower apartment complex in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad, a man allegedly shot his wife dead and then turned the weapon on himself late last night, police confirmed on Thursday. The man has been identified as Yashrajsinh Gohil (33), a relative — nephew — of senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil.
According to preliminary information from city police and eyewitness accounts, the couple’s residence in the NRI Tower on Jajis Bungalow Road became the scene of a drastic turn of events between approximately late evening and early morning hours. Early findings indicate that Yashrajsinh allegedly shot his wife, identified as 30-year-old Rajeshwariba Jadeja, with a licensed revolver, then called emergency services (108) to report the incident.
When the ambulance and police arrived at the scene, medical staff pronounced Rajeshwariba dead on arrival. Immediately after calling for help, Yashrajsinh reportedly turned the weapon on himself and died by suicide at the scene, according to authorities.
The couple were recently married — only about two months ago — and were residing together in the NRI Tower apartment. Local sources say Yashrajsinh worked as a Class-1 officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board and the family originally hails from Bhavnagar district.
Senior police officials at the Vastrapur police station and the Crime Branch reached the site soon after the incident was reported. The revolver used in the incident was recovered from the residence and will be examined by forensic teams.
Police have registered a case and begun a formal investigation. Authorities are gathering witness statements, reviewing forensic evidence, and working to establish what may have led to the sudden and devastating escalation of conflict between the couple. The exact motive — whether domestic dispute or other factors — has not yet been confirmed.
Both bodies have been transported to a hospital for post-mortem examinations, which are expected to provide further clarity on the sequence and timing of injuries. Officials also plan to examine phone records and any potential note or messages that might shed light on the circumstances.
The incident has sent shockwaves through local residents of the Vastrapur area and political circles due to the involvement of a close relative of Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil, a senior leader with decades of political experience.
