PM Modi at Toronto event:After 42 years an Indian PM to reach Canada

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian Diaspora in Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum a few hours ago today. He was given a ceremonial welcome earlier in Canada’s capital Ottawa. This is the last leg of PM Modi’s 3-nation tour, which included France and Germany.

“The Indian flag has four colours and I want to bring four revolutions to India. Saffron is a colour of energy, and we must have an energy revolution in India.”

“Our country used to always speak of megawatts but today we are talking about gigawatts, namely 175 gigawatts of renewable energy. Earlier, the government bought LED bulbs for Rs. 350 each; we buy one LED bulb for Rs. 85,” Modi said, while addressing an Indian diaspora event at the Ricoh Coliseum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Toronto Pearson International Airport on Wednesday, travelling from Ottawa with his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper and the latter’s wife Laureen on the same aircraft.

In a break from protocol, Modi invited Harper to travel with him to Toronto.
