PT Usha IOA President Announces Increase in Grants for Sports Federations at IOA AGM in Ahmedabad

January 10, 2026 Ahmedabad: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Friday held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ahmedabad, during which IOA President Dr P T Usha announced an increase in annual grants for national sports federations and state Olympic bodies.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, PT Usha said the annual grants for national sports federations will be increased from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, while state Olympic bodies will receive Rs 10 lakh, up from the earlier allocation of Rs 7 lakh.

The AGM was attended by representatives of national sports federations, athletes’ representatives, and IOA office-bearers. The meeting reviewed the work carried out in the previous period and discussed future plans related to the Olympic movement in India, according to an IOA release.

Addressing the AGM, PT Usha said the association remains focused on reform, transparency, and athlete welfare. She said steps have been taken to modernise the functioning of the IOA and to place athletes at the centre of its initiatives.

PT Usha also referred to sports infrastructure development in Gujarat, stating that several facilities are being developed in Ahmedabad. She said these efforts could contribute to making the city a sports hub in the future.

IOA Senior Vice President Ajay Patel said the Gujarat government made a presentation during the meeting on sports infrastructure being developed in the state in the context of India’s plans to bid for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. He said Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were present at the meeting.

The IOA said discussions at the AGM focused on strengthening governance, supporting athletes, and advancing India’s long-term sporting objectives.
