Sunetra Pawar to Take Oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Tomorrow

Mumbai: Sunetra Pawar, the wife of the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is set to be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, 2026. The ceremony is expected to be held in the evening, with party leaders and government officials finalising arrangements following extensive discussions among Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) members.

According to sources, a legislature party meeting of the NCP will take place at the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai to officially nominate Sunetra Pawar as the party’s leader, after which her oath-taking ceremony is expected later in the day. If confirmed, she will be the first woman to serve as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister.

Senior party leaders, including Chhagan Bhujbal, have indicated that the leadership transition is moving swiftly following the vacancy left by Ajit Pawar’s death. Preparations are underway with key discussions around portfolios and formalising the official appointment.
