The event is being organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat under India’s BRICS Chairship. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is scheduled to inaugurate the programme, alongside Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and other dignitaries.

Unlike conventional sporting tournaments, the demonstration games are designed as a non-competitive cultural event. The initiative aims to celebrate traditional sports, promote mutual understanding and strengthen people-to-people connections among participating nations.

Athletes and delegates from BRICS member and partner countries, including India, China, Russia, Iran, Bolivia, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, are expected to participate in the programme.

India’s traditional sporting heritage will be represented through demonstrations of Mallakhamb, Yogasana and Kalaripayattu. These showcases will be accompanied by demonstrations of indigenous sporting disciplines from other participating nations, highlighting the diversity of their cultural traditions.

The event provides a platform for countries to share their traditional physical practices and cultural identities while encouraging international cooperation through sports.

By bringing these indigenous disciplines to Ahmedabad, the demonstration games aim to highlight the role of traditional sports in preserving cultural heritage and fostering friendship among nations under India’s BRICS Chairship.
