GMERS Colleges Be Converted Into Government Colleges Feels Manish Doshi of Congress

There is Ongoing Controversy in Gujarat over Steep Medical College Fees, Mentioning GMERS Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society Medical College, Self‑Financed Institutions, Congress Spokesman Manish Doshi raises concern over Present Fee Structure in Government, GMERS & Self-Financed Colleges. Government colleges charge around ₹25,000/year, whereas GMERS colleges command fees between ₹3.75 lakh to ₹12 lakh/year and Self‑financed medical colleges range from ₹11 lakh to ₹26 lakh/year.

In a related development, the Gujarat Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) has Approved a Reasonable Hike in Fees for Self‑Financed Medical and Dental Colleges—Effective from the 2025–26 Academic Year and Valid for the Next 3 years:

For Government‑Quota Seats: Hikes of 8–12%, Translating to ₹1–2.5 lakh/year extra.

For Management‑Quota Seats: Hikes of ₹5–8 lakh/year.

NHL Municipal Medical College (MBBS, Govt Quota): now ₹8.3 lakh/year.

Parul & Pramukh Swami Medical Colleges: Around ₹11.2 lakh/year.

Postgraduate Seat at NHL rose from ₹7.93 lakh to ₹8.88 lakh. The costliest Management‑Quota Seat, at Surat Municipal Corporation Medical College, Surged to ₹41.61 lakh/year from ₹37.15 lakh.
