GPCC led by Amit Chavda urged PM Modi to take action regarding lapsing dues related of PTN project demanded recovery of ₹7,500 crore

On August 22, 2025, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), led by Amit Chavda, formally urged PM Modi to take action regarding lapsing dues related to the PTN Par-Tapi-Narmada project. Specifically, they demanded recovery of ₹7,500 crore from the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan under the project framework.

The PTN project—designed to transfer water across tribal belt and western Gujarat—has been deeply contentious because it threatens to submerge 118 villages and displace nearly 500,000 people, predominantly tribal communities. The Congress accuses the Centre of contradicting itself: while state statements claim the project has been cancelled, parliamentary replies indicate that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) still exists, with the project merely taken off the “priority list,” not fully scrapped.

Protests erupted recently in Dharampur, Valsad district, where thousands of tribal villagers and Congress leaders, including Amit Chavda and MLA Anant Patel, rallied to oppose the project. They demanded official clarity and documentation confirming its cancellation.
