Food & Drug Control Department Raids 8 Medical Stores in Ahmedabad for Selling Cough Syrup Without Prescription

The Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) has conducted surprise inspections at eight medical stores across Ahmedabad for allegedly selling cough syrup without a doctor’s prescription.

According to officials, the action was part of ongoing vigilance to ensure that citizens receive safe, genuine, and quality medicines. During the raid, several irregularities were found at medical stores located in Ghatlodia, Satellite, Vejalpur, and Prahladnagar, including branches of Apollo Pharmacy, Solcure Pharmacy, Namnidhi Pharma, Nam: Wellness, Krishna Medical, and Natraj Medical Store.

Out of the eight medical stores,

  • Five stores were found selling cough syrup without the presence of a registered pharmacist,
  • Two stores had registered pharmacists present but were still selling cough syrup without valid prescriptions,
  • One store was found closed at the time of inspection.

The department has issued show-cause notices to all eight medical stores and demanded an immediate explanation. Authorities have stated that strict action will be taken after reviewing their responses.

The FDCA reiterated that it carries out regular inspections statewide. Violations such as absence of registered pharmacists, sale of expired or duplicate medicines, illegal sale of cough syrups, MTP kits, and other controlled drugs result in action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The department remains committed to cracking down on spurious drug activities and ensuring public safety.
