Child Marriage exist in Gujarat Despite Law; Shocking Survey shows 341 Pregnant Minor Girls in Mehsana

Gandhinagar/Mehsana: Even though the Child Marriage Prevention Act is fully in force across Gujarat, disturbing evidence shows that child marriages are still taking place in several parts of the state. In a startling revelation, the state government has acknowledged ongoing instances of child marriage, with Mehsana district emerging as a major area of concern.

Mehsana, considered one of the most literate districts in Gujarat, has reported alarming statistics. A recent survey carried out by the Health Department has exposed that 341 girls between the ages of 13 and 17 were found pregnant after being married off as minors.

The findings point to a serious gap between legal enforcement and ground realities. Despite stringent laws and awareness campaigns, child marriage practices continue in certain pockets, putting young girls at risk physically, emotionally, and socially.

Child rights activists have expressed deep concern, urging the state administration to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, take strict legal action against those responsible, and implement community-based interventions to stop child marriages.

With the shocking data now in the public domain, authorities are expected to intensify efforts to address the issue and ensure better protection for minors across Gujarat.
