AMC’s ₹17,018 Crore Draft Budget for 2026-27,Focus on Infrastructure, Sports & Civic Services

Ahmedabad, February 4, 2026 — The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday unveiled its draft budget of ₹17,018 crore for the 2026–27 financial year, setting out a comprehensive plan to strengthen urban infrastructure, enhance civic services, promote environmental sustainability and support public welfare, without imposing any additional tax burden on citizens.

The budget was tabled by the Municipal Commissioner before the Standing Committee and will undergo detailed deliberations in the coming days before being placed for approval before the AMC General Board.

Of the total proposed expenditure, ₹7,150 crore has been allocated for revenue spending, while ₹9,868 crore is earmarked for capital investment, underscoring the civic body’s focus on long-term asset creation and city development.

The budget places strong emphasis on:

  • Upgrading roads, flyovers and core urban infrastructure
  • Strengthening water supply and sewage treatment systems
  • Improving stormwater drainage and flood control mechanisms
  • Expanding solid waste management and eco-friendly initiatives

As part of efforts to encourage youth engagement and healthy lifestyles, the AMC has proposed the construction of 11 new sports complexes across Ahmedabad. The plan also includes additional gymnasiums, swimming pools, playgrounds and multi-purpose sports facilities, aimed at boosting grassroots sports and community participation.

Continuing its focus on city beautification and public spaces, the budget allocates funds for further development of the Sabarmati Riverfront, including improved amenities and connectivity. Provisions have also been made for the creation and upgradation of public gardens, libraries and community centres across various city zones.

Importantly, the civic administration has chosen not to increase property tax or introduce new civic levies, offering relief to residents while concentrating on better financial management and optimal use of resources.

Alongside the main civic budget, AMC’s public transport wing, the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS), has separately approved a ₹1,011 crore budget for 2026–27, aimed at expanding the bus fleet, increasing electric buses, adopting new technologies and improving passenger amenities.

The draft budget will now be scrutinised by elected representatives and various committees. Any recommendations or revisions will be incorporated before the final budget is presented for approval in the AMC General Board.

Overall, the proposed budget highlights AMC’s commitment to sustainable urban development, enhanced quality of life and inclusive growth, reinforcing Ahmedabad’s position as a rapidly evolving metropolitan city.
