In a significant development, the draft report on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Gujarat has been submitted to Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.
The report has been prepared by a high-level committee chaired by Ranjana Prakash Desai, following an extensive and detailed study. The committee conducted district visits across the state, gathered public opinions, and engaged in wide consultations before finalizing the draft.

The committee comprises retired senior IAS officer C.L. Meena, senior advocate R.C. Kodekar, former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dakshesh Thakar, and social worker Geeta Shroff.
According to the presentation made before the Chief Minister, the draft proposes a uniform legal framework for all communities and religions on key civil matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.
A major focus of the draft is ensuring equal rights and protection for women. The report also takes into account Gujarat’s geographical and cultural diversity while framing its recommendations.
The committee submitted a comprehensive three-volume report to the Chief Minister. Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary M.K. Das and other top administrative and legal authorities, were present during the submission.
