India’s human spaceflight ambitions received a major boost as the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully supported the second Integrated Air Drop Test of the Gaganyaan Crew Module, marking another significant milestone in ISRO’s flagship Gaganyaan Mission.
The test was carried out using an IAF Chinook helicopter, which deployed the crew module in a carefully monitored air-drop exercise. The trial was aimed at validating the parachute-based deceleration and recovery system, a critical safety feature designed to ensure the safe return of astronauts during future missions.
Officials said the successful test demonstrated the reliability of the module’s descent and landing mechanisms, bringing India one step closer to its goal of sending astronauts into space under the Gaganyaan programme.
The mission also highlighted the strong coordination among key national agencies, including the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, ISRO, and DRDO. The joint effort showcased India’s growing technological capability and institutional synergy in executing complex aerospace operations.
The successful completion of the second Integrated Air Drop Test reinforces confidence in the mission’s preparedness and underscores India’s steady progress toward achieving human spaceflight capability.
